Solar thermal water heating systems
About Solar Thermal Heating:
Domestic hot water systems must be south on the roof
Must have direct sunlight, like a satellite.
Average 4-5 person system will need 2x Panels
Each Panel is 4`x8`ft
Permits for installation are required;
nobody will turn down a permit for these systems.
Typical system will cost around $10,800-$11,500, this may vary on the amount of pluming needed to be done.
All systems include an 80 gallon storage tank, if you need a larger tank, we have 120 gallon tanks and they will cost $400 extra, usually 40-80 gallon tanks is a sufficient amount, you will not need a 120 gallon unless 6 or more people are living in the house.
Incentives:
Federal tax credit $2,000
New York State tax credit 25% of the cost, capped at $5,000
If you have Keyspan in addition to the other two incentives, Keyspan gives you a 15% rebate on the total cost of installation.
Payback:
Do you have an existing hot water tank?
If yes, then your payback will be 4 years.
If no, and the hot water in the tank is created strictly from the furnace, the payback will be 2 years, you will be able to turn the furnace off for 6 months of the year (May-Nov)
